Socialized medicine a global failure

The fact is there is a nation that has a bad healthcare system. Millions of people get no care at all. Those that get emergency care cost the system a ton of money. The country spends an enormous amount of money on this system, more than double most other countries. Its medical system is among the lowest rated. That country has had healthcare change as part of many political debates for nearly a century with all politicians admitting their system was bankrupting the country and needed to be fixed.

And the country's name is....?

No wait.

Lemme guess.

Russia?

I don't think that is what Nordberg had in mind!

(I know we are kidding about it, but how sad it is that because of the American right...we continue to spend FAR MORE for healthcare than any nation...we still are in last place in results among the Industrialized nations...and even have some third world countries besting us.)

What cracks me up is that the main complaint by right wing wonks and toadies for big pharma & insurance is that Canadians have to wait sometimes for some procedures.

As opposed to not getting any healthcare at all? Remember folks, hospital emergency rooms are used instead of check-ups and such by a whole lot of folk of various generations born and raised here. Why? Because people can't afford $200 to just have ear wax cleaned out by a doctor! Nor can they afford the latest meds without insurance (ex:, $800 for 30 pills to control hype-calcium).

Canadians don't have that problem. There, it's a little pain when the tax man cometh once a year, as opposed to "your money or your life" here regarding healthcare.

Which is better?

Hello Frank,

I don't think that is what Nordberg had in mind!

I know. It's like they are determined to be screwed - and take us all along for the ride. Mind boggling. Have faith. We shall overcome. It just shouldn't be this hard.

You’re making a case for America’s “FOR PROFIT” healthcare Nordi. Even 3 weeks beats the shit out of 7 to 10 weeks for a GP and 7 to 10 months or even 2 years for surgeries and SEVERAL WEEKS for a specialist appointment in socialized medicine countries, unless of course you have connections and money or belong to the correct political party.

I don’t know where you live, but I live in a highly populated area and I get doctor’s appointments for GP under 3 weeks, and specialist appointments under a week. I’ve had several critical procedures scheduled and performed under a week and a life saving operation scheduled and performed in 6 days.

I need NO referrals from a GP to see a specialist Nordi! You need to buy better insurance!!!

If you think your waiting is bad now, wait till healthcare is FREE!!!!!

If my healthcare is a right then I’ll be expecting you and Frank and every other leftie to buy me and mine a nice house where it’s warm in the winter and cooled in the summer and you need to buy all of my food and transport me to the doctor too!!! All of that is related to my HEALTHCARE!!!!! Healthcare asa right is preposterous!!!!

America has great dental care too Nordi!!! The problem isn’t dental care, it’s INSURANCE Nordi!!! Vote the bastards out of Washington, DRAIN THE SWAMP Nordi!!! If you think Americans are walking to Mexico now for healthcare, just wait till it’s FREE in America!!!!!

They need to open up Healthcare and allow someone to be able to enroll in any program that's in the US.

This would open up competition and probably bring enrollment costs down.

I know there are other things at play and need to be considered; but this would be a start.

Healthcare is never free. But universal coverage is much cheaper and it is comprehensive. We pay double what other countries do and many of Amruicans have no healthcare and many have poor quality health care. Universal healthcare is cheaper. Millions spend thousands a month for health care and still have copays . We are being looted by the healthcare and PHARM industry. They have the largest amount of lobbyists that they sic on congress. We waste money on health insurance companies who loot our system for billions. We get gouged by hard medical goods manufacturers. We are being looted and have a lousy system. You are again, flat out wrong. Don't like something, give it a scary label. Call it socialism, which triggers people like you.

Cheaper for who; because the cost has to be paid by someone??

I don't care what Trump or any other politician says, I only care about what they do! 99.9% of what politicians say is bullshit anyhow and there's very, very few exceptions. I didn't vote for Trump or anybody else in the duopoly's rigged election. It doesn't surprise me that Trump said he supported Single Payer. After all, Trump has his own private jet to fly him anywhere in the world for exceptional healthcare and he can afford it. That's just another issue related to Single Payer and why so many millionaires and billionaires support it. i. e. it's no skin off of their ass!

Odd how you only mentioned Trump; but left out the Clintons, Obamas, and many other of those in the Government.

I bet you really, really do not know. You would pay taxes for total healthcare. But you would not have to pay a health insurance premium. You would not pay copays and other costs. You would get full coverage and pay less. Your company would be relieved if they are paying your healthcare and they can pay employees more or compete better with their products.

But it's not FREE; because someone has to pay and it's apparent that you want it to be paid by those who are better off financially.

Hello Taichiliberal,

What cracks me up is that the main complaint by right wing wonks and toadies for big pharma & insurance is that Canadians have to wait sometimes for some procedures.

I heard that Canadian women have to wait 9 months to have a birth...

The percentage of Americans who would prefer a system like Canada's is FAR larger than the percentage of Canadians who would prefer a system like the USA.

Who the fuck said it was free? I said it would be paid out of our taxes, it would be better care and much cheaper. The people's cost would be cut in half . We pay a ton in premiums now. That would go away. The taxes would be much less.
Why do you distort what people say?

But the majority of it wouldn't be paid out of YOUR taxes; because you want it to be paid for, by someone else's taxes.

:truestory:

About a decade ago, other posters on another discussion board dubbed him "Free-dumb". Now you know why, and which is why I have him and his like minded brethren on IA....trying to have a rational, logical and fact based discussion with him is like banging your head against a wall....it feels so good when you stop.

But the chronology of the posts, show that you're an idiot; so there is that. :D

Socialized medicine a global failure

There is indeed a lot to learn from foreign, government-run single-payer systems — just not what Sanders and others might like to hear. From Canada to the United Kingdom and even Scandinavia, single-payer systems have proven cripplingly expensive even as they limit patients’ ability to access quality care.

Consider Canada’s true single-payer system. Patients must wait an average of more than two months to see a specialist after getting a referral from their general practitioner, according to the Fraser Institute, a nonpartisan Canadian think tank. Patients can expect to wait another 9.8 weeks, on average, before receiving the treatment they need from that specialist.

Access to care is so poor, in fact, that 52,000 Canadians flee to the United States each year for medical attention. They refuse to wait in line for care as their health deteriorates.

The situation is no better under Great Britain’s mainly government-run health system.

As of this summer, 3.4 million Brits were stuck on waiting lists — a 36 percent uptick since 2010. Last year, about a million people had to wait more than four months to get treatment. Almost 300,000 waited at least six months.

More to come tomorrow.

Name one country begging for the American system where insurance companies profits cum first

No because it cost less. That is what cheaper is. The cost is half what ours is. Do you really not understand those fundamental principles of the discussion. Then what are you doing here.? Do some homework. We are paying the larger cost now. Paying the half cost is .....cheaper.

What happens to those that don't pay the taxes? Are you willing to let them go without?

My insurance has never had a problem paying what few times its been used. Works fine for ME. Since I don't give a fuck about you and yours, I don't give a fuck whether you or yours get care.
