Support the Fast Food Workers Strike!

Supefreak please, do you know who you are talking to? I probably know more FA"s than YOU do. LOL They are in all my networking groups. You know how many of you superfreaks have tried to date me? And I am smarter than any of them. Sorry, all true.

1) you live in new york... The cesspool of my industry
2) i doubt you have any clue about my industry
3) i couldn't care less if the scum in nyc want to date u
4) all of your above post is irrelevant to my point... Doubling minimum wage will not help
5) you are not smart enough to see desh for the hate filled lunatic that she is, so i doubt you are smart as you think you are

Really, what is "unskilled labor" though? People act as if good employees are so easy to find and everyone is expendable. It's just not true in my experience. I would pay 17 an hour for the woman he describes to answer my damned phones and take supply orders, without blinking an eye. Is it unskilled? Well, making my customers happy is a skill IMO, giving a shit about your job, showing up for your job on time and without excessive days off, filling orders correctly...that's all skilled to me and I would jump at the chance to pay it for the right person. In fact, I have paid it for the job. I paid 20 an hour to a woman to do that, plus some billing. She was worth every penny.

I am always very interested in reading people's opinions of workers. I hate to say this but I do notice a trend of men devauling the work of others. I frankly believe they have a tendancy to overvalue themselves. Just my two cents.

Darla you would be willing to pay that amount because it is important to you. Should everyone else be forced to pay that same amount as well?

Well because #1. what someone else makes with another employer isn't relevant. #2. They work very hard and contribute substantially to the companies profits. #3. Those companies make substantial profits and #4. The free market is predicated on ALL people having the RIGHT to charge what the market will bear for their goods and services. Not just the special few. I say if they can negotiate that level of pay more power to them. Conversely if the market will only bear 5 bucks an hour. Then life's a bitch go learn marketable skill. what is wrong with that? Don't you believe the free market applies to every one?

So you agree that raising the minimum wage is a bad idea

I've no doubt that you could!

(See, this is where I out think yet another FA, one too stupid to understand the english language, and really I have both hands tied behind my back right now. It is too bad that Rush Limbaugh uses that "Talent on Loan From God" because that really is so descriptive of me.)

Sounds like you're exploiting her and should give her a raise. I hope she finds a place that deserves her.
Really? I live in NM. One of the bottom three poorest states in the nation. Our per capita income is $22,966, in my county, Dona Ana has a per capita income of $18,315. Our legal assistant/receptionist makes $35,360/ year without a diploma or GED. She could not get a job with a law firm on the east or west coast making that kind of money with her educational background EVEN with her experience. Our senior paralegal makes $21/hr. and is the highest paid paralegal in the city of Las Cruces. I know, because I asked, the next closest paralegal makes 18/hour and has been at her job 9 years. All of the support staff gets overtime, last pay period the average hours worked was 98.6. They all get overtime. To get paid what we pay, they would all have to move to Albuquerque, or they would take a cut in pay ANYWHERE else in the state.

Fair enough... Then there is no need to force a minimum wage increase
There are pros and cons to raising the minimum wage but right now I think it would do more good than harm. The current minimum wage is historically low when normalized for inflation and has not kept pace with economic productivity so there probably is a good argument to increase it to nominal historical levels.

That specific amount, no, but a much higher amount than the current minimum wage, yes. What is most important is taking notice of how so many devalue the work of others. DO you want me to go on forever, because I can? You know how you can take OBama's pre-2008 resume? Well put a woman's name on it and let me know if she thinks she's qualified to be President.

Men overvalue themselves, women undervalue themselves. GENERALLY speaking, not all of course. Part of men overvaluing themselves, is undervaluing others. That's why it's so interesting to me to watch a lot of men arrogantly decide who is "overpaid" at 15 fucking dollars an hour...they of course could never be overpaid, it is not even something that is imaginable.

Why not let the market determine that? Why do you insist that some have the right to the free market but not others? I say let them negotiate and if they have the strength of their position and win more power to them. What are you afraid of? That unskilled people who work hard might have a decent standard of living?

You think with 7.6% unemployment rate that unskilled jobs will see a rise or fall in hourly wages if we are going by what the market will bear?

I will concede that this does not explain Sarah Palin.

Well why don't you do something about your States education system.....like invest in it?

One of the main reasons why the south and southwest have become the minimum wage capital of the nation is because of their refusal to invest in public education and public/civic infrastructure at the levels invested at by most of the rest of the nation. The poor education and infrastructure may be good for business requiring low wage/low skill workers but it can't sustain the higher end industries that do require both a highly educated work force and a modern, well maintained infrastructure.

Hell when I was talking with some German business men at a BMW plant, where I was managing a project outside of Greer, South Carolina, I asked why they decided on that location for building their plant? They told me that South Carolina was their Mexico. Lots of poorly educated yokels who will work for low wages.

Not to mention the fact that the job she describes is not the same as the one who flips burgers.

Well that is what I mean when I ask, who is to say what is unskilled? And my post was in response to Soc's about a legal secretary, who is more skilled than the positon I am describing SF, so you are making a false comparison.

As for fast food workers, they do more than flip burgers, that is a way of dismissing and devaluing them. For me personally, I would like to live in a world where food workers were appreciated and treated well. Perhaps you don't care what you put in your mouth, I couldn't comment. But I think it pays for all of us in the long run.

Damn that post was funny....lmao.....please go on....how many tried to date you ? and how much smarter are you....??? did you all take a test or something ?

you see, you're missing out on an opportunity to create change......what you should be doing is going on a petition campaign promising McDonalds you will buy food from them at least three times a week if they pay their employees $15 an hour.....get enough people to sign up and I can guarantee McD will act.....

I'm just sort of guessing here, they'd need to see results before change. Promises from those folks won't be cutting it.
