What is socialism?

Taxes, regulations, and enforcing laws are functions of government--not the production and distribution of goods and services such as manufacturing your cell phone, TV, computer, vehicle, planes, ships, and providing your food, restaurants, and entertainment. Capitalistic enterprises must obey government laws and regulations, but they still provide our goods and services--not government except in socialist nations.

I think you mean "socialist" taxation and "socialist"regulations and enforcing "socialist" laws are "socialist" functions of government. In reality, (that you seem to avoid facing), all of the above DO control "the means of production and distribution." To believe anything otherwise is simply naivety and senseless denial. "Government is socialism by definition."

The corporate state manages their own socialism having purchased your representatives. Relax, Amazon, Trump, GE, they don't pay their taxes as a matter of course. You? Yeah, you better.

That's probably why New York's "DEMOCRAT" Governor & New York City's "DEMOCRAT" Mayor & Washington D.C.'s "DEMOCRAT" Mayor have just offered up massive tax breaks to Amazon to locate their expanded operations there, huh? Just another example of how SOCIALIST government controls the means of production and distribution, right? There's a certain amount of larceny and bribery involved in all of government's socialist systems, correct?

I thank you for your participation in this discussion, it's been interesting. Now that you've admitted you're in a state of denial and unwilling to offer up any evidence in support of your denial, I find the discussion no longer interesting or worthwhile. Thanks again!

It's gotta be embarrassing to not even be able to find a definition to help you make your point. You just went Full Evince in this thread. Never go Full Evince.

Again friend, you supply only "OPINIONS." Contrary to your denial, my "EVIDENCE" is and has been there for your honest acceptance and information. I'll accept no responsibility for your blind denial. It's human nature and partisan ignorance. thanks again friend!

Socialism for the aristocracy is bipartisan, yes. I think we've made progress here.

FFS Robo, find a definition of Socialism, even one, that mentions government. Shit or get off the pot.

Since you're such an inspired fan of socialist, single payer, universal healthcare, why don't you promote and lobby for your own state to institute it in your state, instead of promoting it to be the instituted unconstitutional disaster for the entire nation to suffer? Just think, it could be the shining model for every other state in the nation if it's all you believe it is and it would also be constitutional for any state to institute. (see amendment 10). Oh wait! a couple of states have already studied that possibility and discovered they couldn't afford it, huh? Well I suppose that leads you to believe that a bloated incompetent federal corrupt government could handle it, right?

I don't have a state Robo. I'm speaking from experience and speaking for smaller government, better health care, less costly health care, and health care for all the people.

This is why the Internet sucks...you always end up with two idiots talking to each other.

You are using "socialist" and "government" interchangeably which completely destroys their meaning. A nation's governmental system is not the same as its economic system. I am not trying to avoid facing anything because that would suggest value judgments rather than simply trying to describe the meaning of these terms. It is also contrary to the dictionary definition you posted earlier which does not say "government is socialism by definition."

Yep. Thanks...I'm not the only one who noticed that I guess.

Why is it so hard for youalls to understand the concept of socially responsible government in which government runs programs such as health care because government can do it much better and a lot more cost effective?

Universal health care is the proof and the door has been opened in the US now. The acceptance of pre-existing conditions by the right is the foot in the door. Yet ignorant people like Deplorable still resist. On some principle?

CFM doesn't hesitate to say that it's all about his racism. Is deplorable one too who is still in the closet?

We understand the concept of socially responsible government. We just have different opinions about what that means. For some it is liberty and freedom. For others, it is government providing for everyone.

you have neither but you've bought into the lie that you have liberty and freedom. Now have a look at the truth!

https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2017/06/these-rich-countries-have-high-levels-of-child-poverty/

And look at the countries that are close to the equivalent of the US!

Then have a look on the graphs for the countries that provide for everyone.

Americans don't need for the government to take care of everyone--we reserve that for those who cannot take care of themselves.

What does child poverty have to do with freedom and liberty? And U. S. poverty rates do not include government benefits such as TANF, SNAP, housing, Medicaid, WIC, CHIPS, SSI, EITC, education grants.........

I was unaware that you are a foreigner to the United States.

If you're speaking for and promoting single payer healthcare for America. It's actually unconstitutional in America. Amendment 10 to our Constitution forbids our federal government from being involved in the establishment of such socialist programs and gives that authority solely to the individual several states within the United States.

Personally I think single payer sucks! I don't trust the federal government to do much of anything positive for the people. Single payer would be crummy healthcare insurance and would bankrupt the nation in my opinion.

Like your fellow travelers in this subject, your "OPINIONS" are duly noted. However, they're simply opinions. You offer nothing to back up those opinions, while I offered up a dictionary definition that proves that all government is some degree of "SOCIALIST."
Simply denying the definition I posted actually makes that case does nothing for your argument. You need to present in some detail WHAT the definition ACTUALLY DOES SAY, in your opinion, contrary to what I say it says. OK? I'll wait!

All current governments, obviously, are merely the central committees of the local capitalist class. The bullshit poured into American brains by McCarthy is quite something!

I think robo thinks the production and distribution of goods and services includes such things as defense, roads, taxes, and other governmental functions.

You're correct! That's exactly what robo thinks, and he can prove it too! Actually, everything government does has an element/degree of socialism involved in it. While government may often NOT be the sole owner and operator of a particular activity, government certainly is the "MAJOR" owner operator of every action that happens in any society. Government makes the laws and calls the moves and collects a fee for every action. That proves government is the major owner operator of every action. Every and any dictionary will tell you that SOCIALISM is THE CONTROL & OWNERSHIP OF THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION.

So says the fellow that claims socialism is absolute democracy whereby "the people" govern themselves by referendum without any hint of government. The same fellow who can never and will never answer any questions about the actual "governing" of such a system and how it can actually work successfully. You sir are the mother of all absurdity!
