Where Do Confederate Monuments Go After They Come Down?

To move on, let me say that I don't care about monuments in some city square. I do care about places like Gettysburg. It appears that you only want one side of the story told.

What other story is to be told? So again, this is you arguing you need these to "remember history" after screeching that wasn't the case when I posed that very question to you.

Would you like to see Monticello destroyed because Jefferson was a slave owner?

Classic whataboutism, which is a KGB tactic.

Monticello contains an entire section devoted to Jefferson's slave-holding past. In fact, that's what all the slave houses there are for.

Ever been to Monticello? Obviously not, but that won't stop you from posturing about it on a message board to save face.

Do you want Mount Vernon destroyed because Washington owned slaves? Or do you justify those two because they were "good" slave owners?

None of them fought a war against the United States to preserve the institution of slavery.

But your guys did, and apparently you have memory problems that would prevent you from knowing that unless you saw a statue.

Tell us again how these monuments do anything other than intimidate and offend?

I've already declared victory. It was your post # 125. I quote: "Intimidation is a matter of opinion.

You don't get to decide when you've offended or intimidated someone."

You don't get to decide that either.

Jesus H. Christ! That is what I have been saying all along. I don't get to decide, and neither do you. Thanks. I am declaring victory.

That's why I listen to people who are.

That's why I gave you those four links.

You don't want to accept the racism in Confederate monuments because you're a racist yourself. That's the only reason anyone would want to keep those monuments around. "Remembering history" is bullshit because books, the internet, TV, and movies exist. You don't need a statue in order to know the South lost the Civil War.

At Gettysburg, they show that there were two sides to the story. You only want one side told. And you have shown no evidence that African Americans are too intimidated to visit that historical site. Do you want Monticello and Mt. Vernon demolished?

Do you want Monticello and Mt. Vernon demolished?

Neither Jefferson or Washington fought a war against the US to preserve slavery.

And both of those places have extensive sections about slavery...at Monticello, they even have a re-constructed set of slave barracks.

You would know that if you ever visited Monticello, which you haven't.

So again, you're just talking out of your ass.

If you defend Confederate Memorials, you are most definitely a racist.

You are most definitely stupid. You claim that African Americans are afraid of statues. Will you next claim that they are fearful of Voodoo? You have shown no evidence that people of color are too intimidated by figures to visit Gettysburg. You are the racist.

So now the Conservative argument has shifted to "both sides."

Allow me to sum it up:

"We want slavery"
"We don't"

The end. No statue needed.

You're the one who can't seem to remember who won the Civil War if there's no statue around.

And I didn't say they were afraid of statues, I said the statues were built to intimidate them. You're helping me prove that with your ever-changing explanations for why you need these monuments.

Someone should tell you that the internet, books, TV, and movies all exist and all document the history of Gettysburg.
