Why millennials are leaving the church?

and yet, you've never been able to identify one of these "lies"......

Right now. Your previous claim that the definition of atheism has somehow changed in the last 10 years. Your claim that you believe in evolution. Your misrepresentation of what evolutionary theory supports. You lie all the time.

so basically, your claim that I lie is based upon your ignorance?......because all three of the things I have stated about the definition of atheism, that I believe in evolution, and what I described about evolutionary theory are in fact true......the only thing lacking is your acceptance of that truth....

None of them are true.

You miss the point. Not surprising. Both matter.

Your and Winterborns thinking is why this country is in the shirty state it is in.

No...one most certainly does not matter. Show me anywhere in the Bible about forced obedience or even forced belief.

By the way? My shirts are fine...perhaps you just have a SHITTY shirter.

Getting back to the point of the thread....the reason Millenials are leaving the church is a multidimensional issue.

1. Instant gratification- our younger people need to see results. If not immediately, then shortly thereafter. They are used to flipping a switch and getting whatever they want in a moment's time. Whereas the church teaches that life here in the mortal realm is often hard, unrewarding and filled with strife, but if you stay true to the message, when you die you will have earned your reward.

2. Judgmentalism- we all have a tendency to say "love the sinner, hate the sin"...but a lot of us don't practice this...we attack the sinner for their sins.

3. Hypocrisy- this has been an issue with organized Judeo-Christian religion since.it's inception. You have King David sleeping around(adultery), you have the Pharisees who had become so corrupt that they crucified their own Messiah, you have the Catholic Church who were in charge of such deeds as the Crusades and the Inquisition, you have the Puritans in America who all but wiped out the indigenous people who lived here before us, you have the Catholic Priests who molested and were covered up, you have people like Fred Phelps who alienates and condemns people on no authority but his own.....then you have everyday people calling others "baby killers" when they have never touched a baby with ANYTHING other than love and compassion....just because of fucking POLITICS.

Is it ANY WONDER why young folk are abandoning the church? Is it any wonder why they shun the black and white and embrace the gray? It's a technicolor world, and the people that are supposed to care the most about our brothers and sisters in this world......don't. They care about rhetoric, exclusion and self righteousness.

In a general sense, everything that religion assigns to the intervention of a supreme being has been explained by science. God does not exist. Evolution does exist. Gravity exists. If you want to consider that a belief that's up to you.

Lmao... You think science has proven god does not exist... Please link us up to that scientific data.

science of course is still figuring out all the areas it doesn't know yet. What caused the big bang, what's up with string theory and lots of other interesting questions.

But none of this has been explained by a big kahuna in the sky "making it so".

All of the observations so far say god does not exist.

No the observations do no such thing. But feel free and post the observations that you think do so.

If you have anything provable, observable, testable that says god does exist - please do present it. It would be quite surprising.

Please do the same that god doesnt exist. Fyi... I am agnostic... There is no evidence either way to prove whether or not god does or does not exist.w

Science continues to evolve, theories continue to be improved, new data comes along to shift the science; that all will happen.

But I have to say, on the basis of everything we know today, god does not exist.

That may be your belief, but it is not based on science.

It has nothing to do with it being compared to a religion. Your position is idiotic and is only intended to protect your own ego from charges of being a cowardly fence sitter.

Atheism is not a religion or an article of faith. However, one can believe in something based on faith and it not be a religion. Faith is belief without proof and usually based on feelings and revelation.

See how angry you are... Because you know i am right. There is no scientific evidence to either support gods existence or lack thereof. Yet you take a definitive stance... Based on faith. That is what you WANT to believe. Care to share your evidence to support you position? Didnt think so.

Christians have been trying to beat, kill, rape everyone other than Christians for centuries. Today Christianity should be important to society. Yet today Christians are STILL casting stones upon gays hoping stone casting will preserve them a spot in heaven. The same kind of extremism as a suicide bomber is to Islam.

Todays Christians state, "I can't condone homosexuality" and vote down equality because they don't know that before today, someone took a stand against that equality. They made laws to enforce Christianity and made one that states "gays can't marry". Basically judgement *do not judge or be judged* and *casting stones*

You know what it is from the bibles perspective? A sin. We all sin in one way or another. Society tends to rate some sins more extreme than others when it's not societies job to do so. Otherwise,.....it's casting stones.

I don't really take a definitive stance. I don't believe that god(s) exist. That's quite different than saying, I believe god(s) don't exist. There is no evidence for god(s) and plenty of evidence against all the various claims of religions.

I believe the Judeo/Christian god does not exist. It's nothing but a silly, often immoral and illogical fairy tale.

Prove the teapot does not exist? Prove Santa Claus does not exist?

I think you forgot the most important reason. Apathy. They don't care. In a rational world in which vast numbers of people are taught critical thinking skills knowledge by authority passed on by people who lived 2000 years ago has little relevence in the lives of most people today. So why should they care about something that has for them, little relevence in the modern world.
