Agreed. The only reason to not take a plea deal is when the evidence is so strong, it's not offered. The idiots on trial are big fish and they are going to be gutted in court.

Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes and Kellye SoRelle, the group’s legal counsel, appear to have been sharing more than just an ideology.

Federal prosecutors revealed during the Oath Keepers’ trial on Monday that Mr Rhodes and Ms SoRelle had been exchanging text messages that suggest the two were involved in a romantic relationship.

"Speaking of f****** … if you need some come on over," Mr Rhodes texted the attorney in the days before the Capitol riot.

Ms SoRelle said she could not, but Mr Rhodes insisted that he would "drag [her] into bed later”.

Despite initially turning Mr Rhodes down, Ms SoRelle later sends him a text suggesting she was amenable to his advances.

"That’s how I know you’re trouble. You’re too good at what you do," she wrote. "Whole bad boy thing. I am a damn moth to a [flame emoji.]"

Ms SoRelle and Mr Rhodes were both previously married, but those relations both appear to be estranged.

That is the risk. You don't know if the plea offer will be more or less than the sentence of the judge or jury.

But for the government, a plea is a sure conviction without the risk, time, and expense of a trial.

A man was on trial for murder and while waiting for his jury to return with the verdict he learned another murder defendant at the same courthouse had been given the death penalty. So, he agreed to plead guilty for the deal he had been offered. When his jury returned they had found him not guilty.

In another case two attorneys were representing a robber suspect and having a meeting with their client. At that meeting the client told them he had actually committed the crime another man had just been convicted for. They could say nothing because of lawyer/client privilege. They finally revealed the information after their client died in prison.

Yes. But they still want a tough sentence so people don't think anyone is being soft on crime. And, if the sentence is tough maybe the idiot will think twice before attacking the Capitol and trying to overturn an election.

For example? I don't think the increased murder rate differs much by areas based on party affiliation. Governors of blue states and red states have both seen their crime rates increase during the pandemic. Do you think our president, governors, or mayors were responsible for rising crime during the pandemic?
