Why do right wingers always bash education?

It is a power not given to the United States. The constitution states if it is not given to the United States it is reserved for the States or the people... They knew they could not list every power, so they listed which powers they had, then listed some negative rights that they could not interfere in, noted that not all the rights are listed, then noted that if the power was not listed as for the Federal Government it was then either a power exercised by the States or by The People.

I cited exactly where it tells them that this is a power for the states.

This is the exact reason that when the Department was established they controlled only the free lunch. Because education actually is a power withheld for the states.

If not explicitly prevented, the US government can do whatever it wants. Shit, I learned this in third grade.

Who the hell still uses acronyms? What, you stuck in junior high?

As I said, the Teacher Union is disjointed on a national level, they don’t bargain collectively with local school boards, nor are party to big contracts, like education itself, that is all done on a local level

In addition, they only protect the profession, not education itself which is under constant attack

People can vote with their feet and pocketbook right? Why do so many progressives in urban areas send their kids to private schools? Is it they want to send their kids to public schools but can't because right-wingers bash it?

All this lip service to caring about education but won't match actions with the words.

PUSSY^^^^

Because our education system Pre-K to Post Doc has been hijacked and destroyed by the WOKE cult.

Nope.; It was deliberately shredded since Reagan. The wealthy saw a way to make big bucks off education. the first step was to claim teachers are terrible and should be fired. Then the whole system is falling apart. That required destroying the system for the masses and making minority education abysmal. They did it with joy. Now we have charter schools and huge college tuition bills.. Public education is being strangled. They are making bank.

Republicans, at least the constitutional ones, do not bash education itself. They bash the idea that the Federal Government has any rightful power to oversee and control education.

EXACTLY. This is a monumental failure of our constitution that needs to be ignored if it can't be changed.

Leaving control of education to local yokel school committees in backwater hinterlands is one of several reasons why American education is so inadequate.
Failing to adequately fund it is the other really big one.

The Department of Education should assume complete control of American public education,
and all of its top officials, including the cabinet secretary him/herself, should be required to have accredited doctorates in education.

Education is the very worst place to apply populist principles.
If there's anyplace where elites should be in complete control, it's education.

Bump.

No comments. We're in agreement, then.

The failure of the Universities has lot to do with it....Bret and Heather talk about this a lot.

actual scientific advances are not always sought by big finance. sometimes making tons of money means NOT curing cancer and NOT curing diabetes.

:truestory:

the low vibrational state of the "elite" will be their undoing; they are primitive anti-human violent barbarians. real spiritual evolution will boil them off like so much slag.

This is again incorrect, but we are digressing. My original post in this thread simply outlined that the republicans that I know do not bash education itself, only question the role of the Federal Government (some say there is no role, based on the 10th Amendment which precludes them from powers that they were not granted).

Now. I will tell you that as I understand it the 14th Amendment and the ruling to desegregate schools is what gives the Feds some power in overseeing equal access to education. They do not have the power to tell you what to educate, but they do have a say in who you educate, some programs they want to see to make sure folks have access to it. The law cited was passed in 1965. (We often hear about Title IX nowadays, but Title VII and others are also cited).

There are some states that eschew Federal Funding entirely as they do not want to follow the programs outlined by the Federal Government. While they still must allow equal access they do not have to follow say, Common Core curricula as they do not take the funds from the Feds so they have no stick to force them to follow.

The K-12 education system is about 8% funded by the Feds, 92% by local and States. The localities have most of the power in education, school boards are The King.

The Government pays for a huge amount of science, and is all the way corrupt. The Universities do a huge amount of the science, and are all the way corrupt. The withering of science is just one of the many symptoms of the Wests dying.

Education is no place for populism.

If anything should be controlled by the absolute elite, it's education.

I have read the textbooks for a PhD in Education (my wife was taking the classes). This is not something that should be called "elite". There were misspellings and large amounts of political opinion, it was astounding. Though I will say, in their favor, they did not mark down my wife when she disagreed with the political opinions espoused in the books, she still got the good grades she deserved.

If the elite control it will rich people stop sending their kids to private schools?

Private schools are mostly ruined by WOKE as well. I was reading the other day that even the military schools are mostly gone....and owned by the Chinese and Chinese sympathizers.

Excellent question.

Education is one of the reasons to go to private schools but obviously not the only one.
Social networking with influential people is at least part of it as well. It's a valid concern for parents with high expectations.

Good public education will not result in a sudden wave of egalitarianism.
It will result in a better educated nation, however, and that would bring long term social benefits.
